Backdraft are Manchester’s break beat duo, who have taken the breaks scene by storm with their earth trembling productions such as fool (Botchit) and Labrat (Passenger). Currently signed to the UKs finest labels: Botchit/Passenger, Backdraft are producing some of the most cutting edge sounds that are currently damaging dance floors everywhere.
Backdraft are Karrie and Paul who are originally from Bolton. The pair have been working together for over a decade and their relationship in the studio is a harmonious and productive one with plenty of excellent results. Initially producing D&B for Flex records under the name Tripwire, their introduction to breaks began at World Dance, where they discovered a second room playing new skool breaks. That exact night the pair went home and spent the next few days in their studio making beats of a different kind. Breakbeat gave Backdraft a newly found freedom in their musical creativity and expression. Their atmospheric underground style is deeply rooted in jungle and they have a no compromising driving sound that is second to none. They like to use quirky futuristic sounds perfectly blended with tight rolling percussion. They have a very special relationship with their Yamaha sampler and have a real taste for unique voices and quirky vocals.
Vocal collaborations to date include the stunning lyrical talents of Manchester’s Lenki who provided the haunting vocals for Time to react the amen toting monster that saw them team up with U.S label Downbeat. Up next was the mighty Cantankerous who starred on Superstar Backdrafts second release on Passenger not to mention the infamous remix of the evil & dirty fuck off piss off!!. More recently Backdraft joined forces with 24kt Gold on their third Passenger release R U Ready part 2 . With singles about to drop on Passenger (Funk Rock/Popcorn) & Botchit (Off the Wall/Nicotine) and an Lp due out on Passenger in 2008 as well as mix cd’s due out in 2007 on Passenger & Botchit, It’s looking like a busy year for Backdraft.
When it comes to DJing Backdraft have an exceptional ability to entertain and energise any dancefloor. They have raised the roof at events around the UK not to mention the rest of Europe. The Americans have also developed a taste for Backdraft productions and they have had several successful releases on American label: Downbeat productions. . The crafty techniques and infectious sounds of Backdraft has earned them much deserved acclaim in the breakbeat scene and they continue to impress the underground breakbeat community around Europe and the rest of the world. http://www.myspace.com/backdraftuk
